An annual ceremony, paying tribute to those who have perished on the ocean, took place in the East End on Tuesday, July 29th. The Guild of the Holy Compassion, founded in 1918, recently held its Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony off the waters of St George’s. Service Honours Pilot James Darrell

Descendants of Pilot James Darrell gathered at St Peter’s Church on Saturday, April 12, to honour the Bermudian who was born enslaved in 1749 and freed thanks to his navigational skills and seamanship. Midshipman Richard Sutherland Dale was serving aboard the US frigate President in January 1815 when it encountered a squadron of Royal Navy ships.
